Editing

I provide a variety of editorial services to authors and publishers. With more than 30 years of experience in writing, editing, marketing and publishing, I can help you reach your goals, whether you are planning to seek an agent, go the traditional publishing route, or self-publish.

For authors and publishers, I provide copyediting, substantive editing, and manuscript critiques of juvenile and adult fiction and nonfiction. My special areas of interest include middle grade fiction, general and literary fiction, memoirs, mysteries, and short stories.

Background and experience: For 15 years I was on the editorial staff at Stony Brook University, working with their design and production teams to create the major branding pieces for the institution. When I retired, I didn’t want to leave the editorial work I loved, so I decided to put to use the skills I’d honed by opening my own business.

Publications I wrote at the university include brochures, news features, college guide advertorials, and many magazine and web stories. My materials continue to be used for student recruitment and yield, for alumni engagement, and by academic departments and programs. Over the years I conducted hundreds of interviews of students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Wearing my editor’s hat, I edited numerous client-written drafts for spelling, punctuation, grammar, usage, and organization.

For several years I have been a contributing editor to a quarterly health journal, where I copy edit articles — many of which have been written by physicians — for clarity and consistency.
